Apple iPad is an elegant tablet

Apple iPad is an elegant tablet

iPad-Drawing-Support

There are a number of specialized tablets out there like the Wacom tablets that have been specifically designed for the digital artist. With their stable tablet design, pressure sensitive pens and bundled software like Photoshop Elements, these tablets have all the tools necessary for quality design work.

The Apple iPad is an elegant tablet with it’s rounded edges but it may not be the best form factor available for use as a sketchpad. It’s believed that Apple is working on a new iPad tablet that will be pressure sensitive and have an improved form factor, thereby meeting the needs of graphic designers, but until that tablet comes to light, Psychic Factory has come out with a conceptual product called iSketch.

iSketch is a device that fits tightly around your iPad making it a much more stable platform that can be used for drawing or sketching. Not only does iSketch function as an external docking station, but it also adds a 1-inch protective buffer zone around your drawing tablet and within this 1-inch of space, the designers propose the addition of a battery charger so that you’ve always got a charged device when meeting with clients.

Research In Motion is getting ready to debut their BlackBerry Torch 9800 within Canada

canadatorchlaunchevents

It would appear that Research In Motion is getting ready to debut their BlackBerry Torch 9800 within Canada. We know the BlackBerry Torch 9800 is “coming soon” and many launch dates have been thrown around, but there is still not a concrete date with some credibility behind it.

However, RIM is preparing a series of launch parties in three of the largest Canadian cities. First off is Toronto on September 21st, Vancouver is next on September 22nd and finally, Montreal will be the last Canadian city to host a launch event on September 23rd. Could these be the dates for the official launch? Unknown, but they are as good of a candidate and perhaps stronger then the other dates that have been circulating around the blogosphere.

Those that do have an opportunity to attend one of these launch parties will get a chance to learn more about the Torch as well as BB’s latest OS version, BlackBerry 6 OS. RIM will also be giving out some prizes at these events in the form of 75 Torch 9800 smartphones, 25 in each city.

strong franchise game in the Call of Duty

strong franchise game in the Call of Duty

Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops-to-be-Mod-Friendly

Activision has had a strong franchise game in the Call of Duty. The game which started out as a PC game has been ported to other game consoles and the like. Through the years, gamers have seen a number of different game titles released under this franchise banner and though the releases have generally kept the legions of fans pleased, there have always been areas that could use some improvement.

One of these areas that could use some changes was the lack of support for both community modifications and dedicated servers. Activision has been listening to these complaints and are looking to introduce some changes with their next game, Call of Duty: Black Ops which will now support both community modifications and dedicated servers.

This is a big change as it implies that a developers console will be made available, thereby allowing for game modifications and more specifically, custom modifications to be made. As Treyarch, a Black Ops developer stated, these changes will be made available after the game officially launches.

new talent to its executive lineup

new talent to its executive lineup

Twitter-Monetization

The social networking site Twitter is looking to add some new talent to its executive lineup and has confirmed Adam Bain as their latest hire. Bain comes over from the Fox Audience Network where his job duties saw him responsible for overseeing the successful monetization of the companies web properties like IGN, MySpace as well as other websites that belonged to the News Corp family. Bain’s new role at Twitter will as the President of Revenue and he will report into Dick Costolo, Twitter’s Chief Operating Officer.

Bain leaves the Fox Audience Network with a very successful track record, having taken the company’s self service advertisement business to a level where it was generating hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for the company on an annual basis. The microblogging site Twitter already has a handful of advertising programs that are in place, but these are still in their infancy. Bain will have a new challenge to develop these programs and grow Twitter’s monetization strategy.

Samsung Galaxy Tab has been spotted in the wild

Samsung Galaxy Tab has been spotted in the wild

samsunggalaxytab-lg1

What is believed to be the Samsung Galaxy Tab has been spotted in the wild. It was seen in the hands of a telco employee who was using it at a train station in Sydney, Australia. The employee who was using the Android tablet declined to provide any detailed information on the device, but it’s physical appearance did resemble the official description of the Samsung tablet.

The few details that this employee would offer up was that it was “awesome” and that it was “different” when compared to the Apple iPad. The Samsung tablet comes with a 7-inch display screen, supports 3G network connections and includes a strong user interface with indications being that it is powered by a 1GHz ARM processor.

The fact that we have begun to see the Samsung Galaxy Tab in the wild is a strong indication that user testing may be in the works and that Samsung could very well be finalizing deals with global mobile carriers to subsidize the device with a 3G service contract. Vodafone will definitely carry the Android tablet in the UK and possibly also Australia. Other possible carriers include Telstra and Optus. Within the US, Verizon is a possible candidate.

Rose believes that iTV will be available

Rose believes that iTV will be available

apple_tv

Take it for what its worth, but Kevin Rose, Digg’s founder has thrown his two bits in regarding Apple (AAPL) TV which has been rebranded to iTV. According to Rose, iTV will not just be a small set top box that is powered by the iOS operating system, but it will also use iAds as a method for content providers to monetize their television shows.

In addition to this, Rose believes that the iPad, Apple’s tablet computer will have a very special role as a “badass remote control” when iTV comes out. Not only will the iPad function as a basic remote control that will allow users to change channels, play games and edit videos, but it will be intimately connected with the iTV interactive experience, thereby allowing couch potatoes to view different camera angles of a particular scene or shot. Like other Apple products, iTV will have its own App Store through which you can download video editing software, games and widgets. iTV will also support MobileMe for easy content sharing between say an iPhone 4 and iTV.

Rose believes that iTV will be available next month for around $99.

new Acer netbook have been revealed

new Acer netbook have been revealed

acer-chrome

It’s well known that several manufacturers are currently developing netbook computers that will have Google Chrome OS as the operating system of choice. Acer is one of these hardware companies and in an accidental information leak, some details of the new Acer netbook have been revealed.

Apparently, someone was filling out some Google Chrome and Linux bug reports that were related to an unannounced Acer laptop. By following the paper trail, Macles identified this computer as having an Intel Atom N455 1.66GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB SanDisk pSSD, an ambient light detector, WiFi and Bluetooth support.

The paper trails only sheds some light on the hardware components of the Acer Chrome OS netbook, but it doesn’t offer any clues on a possible price or release date. Macles does speculate that the release date will be fairly soon considering how far the testing has progressed.

New World Record For Texting Set

New World Record For Texting Set

swype-beta-android

We’ve seen a few debates on what is the fastest text input method on a smartphone and to answer the question, at least for that one day, a video was released that compared SWYPE with QWERTY. Of course, that YouTube video didn’t really resolve this question.

In March of this year, the Guiness Book of World Records got involved and included a new entry for the fastest touchscreen texter. At that time, the record belonged to Franklin Page, who in 35.54 seconds was able to type out the following sentence:

The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human

It’s worth mentioning that Page is a Swype employee. Page held the crown for a period of just 5 months before being dethroned by Melissa Thompson, a 27-year old who was able to shed 9.6 seconds off of Page’s time, coming in at 25.94 seconds while typing the same sentence. Thompson is also a SWYPE texter.

The time to beat now is 25.94 and the sentence you have to type is listed above. I’m sure there’s probably a few people checking to see what time they can come in at. If you just happen to come in under 25.94 seconds, there’s a new record with your name on it, just waiting to be claimed.

Apple TV should be announced anytime now and will run on iOS

Apple TV should be announced anytime now and will run on iOS

itunesstore

Apple TV or iTV has been in the news quite a bit lately with the latest report being that Apple is negotiating contracts that will allow consumers to rent television shows through iTunes. According to Bloomberg, those in the know are convinced that 99-cent TV show rentals are being discussed between executives at both Apple Inc. and News Corp.

It’s believed that should this feature come through, consumers will be able to rent a show for a period of 48 hours before they lose access. If this concept sounds familiar, it may be because Apple has a similar process in place for movie rentals through iTunes which are scheduled to expire after an alloted period of time. Apple is also diversifying their programming options as the company is believed to be holding discussions with both CBS and Walt Disney, the latter company being where Steve Jobs is not only a board member, but also the largest shareholder since 2006.

Apple TV should be announced anytime now and will run on iOS, which is the same Apple operating system that powers the iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch.
