lg-e900-smartphone

As we approach the official October Microsoft launch of Windows Phone 7, it was apparent that the number of WP7 handset leaks would increase. Sure we’ve get a few grainy pictures here and there and perhaps some hardware details, but the extend of this next leak is just a bit over the top.

It seems that some folks in the Czech republic have managed to get their hands on the upcoming LG phone called the E900 (or LG Optimus 7) and have given it a full detailed review on video. The video is about 20 minutes in length and in the native Czech language, but at least the images are universal in nature.

Apple new patent offers information on a camera flash system

Apple new patent offers information on a camera flash system

apple-new-flash

Searching through the archives, Gizmodo and others have found a new patent application submitted by Apple Inc. [APPL]. The new patent offers information on a camera flash system that Apple would like to protect with a copyright.

According to the patent, the flash system would have the ability to identify and analyze the subject of a picture and the ambient lighting and then adjust the flash accordingly. From the image included with the patent, it would appear that the system will use an array of lights that each point in a slightly different direction so the assumption is that the camera will be able to pinpoint the location of the subject and then enable the closest flash.

Assuming this patent eventually gets developed into a functional system, it could be implemented in iOS devices like the iPhone, iPad and possibly even high definition video cameras.

New dates being thrown about regarding Microsoft Windows Phone 7

New dates being thrown about regarding Microsoft Windows Phone 7

winphone7toppromo

It appears that we’re hearing some new dates being thrown about regarding Microsoft Windows Phone 7. According to sources close to the Redmond company, Microsoft [MSFT] will host multiple global launch parties on October 21st to show off their WP7 mobile phones.

This is in addition to the already known date of October 11th when Microsoft will be hosting an open house in New York City where it will also showcase new devices. According to the details received, the official launch of WP7 in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and UK is October 21st. It’s not clear if this will also be the date that folks in the US will also be able to pick up a WP7 device.

As part of the European launch, Microsoft will hook up with one of the larger London radio stations to promote devices in the UK. The mobile carrier Orange UK will also be one of the premier partners with whom Microsoft will work. As we’ve mentioned previously, Microsoft has a big hill to climb in order to make inroads against Google’s Android OS and Apple’s iPhone and in order to do this, Microsoft plans to launch a major media campaign to promote Windows Phone 7.

We’ve already seen Microsoft hold a BlackBerry and iPhone mock funerals in Redmond, Washington and we’ve seen the software giant demonstrate how Twitter and YouTube will work on WP7.

Are you looking to buy a WP7 phone or will you stick with what you already have today?

Sony Ericsson Symbian OS in favor of Google Android OS

Sony Ericsson Symbian OS in favor of Google Android OS

sony-ericsson-dumps-symbian-os-0

Sony Ericsson has had some tough challenges of late and in an effort to turn its luck around, the company has confirmed that they are dropping the Symbian OS in favor of Google Android OS. The news was delivered by Aldo Liguori in a recent interview with Bloomberg.

According to Liguori, Sony Ericsson has no immediate plans to develop any new mobile devices that support the Symbian Foundation standard or OS. Instead, Android will be the operating system of choice, at least for now.

However, Sony Ericsson is not closing any doors. In fact, the company is still a member of the Symbian Foundation and they have also said that their products will not rely on Android exclusively. With that said, you have to wonder if Ericsson is looking at potential Windows Phone 7 mobile phones in their future and of course there is always the chance, no matter how small, that other Symbian devices could be created?

The Amazon Kindle may be a great book reader but some may be wondering, where are the games? It may not be retro action game ala Space Invaders or Donkey Kong, but Amazon has partnered up with Electronics Art to bring us a word game, which seems kind of fitting seeing as this is a book reader.

The Amazon Kindle Scrabble App sells for $4.99 through the app store and is compatible with the second and third generation Amazon Kindle as well as the two Kindle DX models. Although the game has just recently launched, it is already in the Amazon top 10 best seller app list showing that there is a demand for these types of apps.

Currently Twitter is testing these options

Currently Twitter is testing these options

twitter-advertising

The microblogging website Twitter continues to look at new revenue models and there are a couple of interesting options that the site has on the table. These include both trending topics and promoted tweets.

Currently Twitter is testing these options with their largest advertising partners and in some cases things look promising with some advertisers willing to spend up to $100,000 on ads. After spending big money such as this, advertisers will be looking for a return on their investment and some of the results are optimistic. For instance, approximately 5% of Internet users that see a promoted tweet actually interact with it, either by clicking a link within the ad or by retweeting it to their followers. Even big brands seem encouraged by the results with 80% of them having purchased at least another round of ads.

In terms of specifics, Coca-Cola saw a 6% interactivity rate with one of their online promotions while Virgin America believes that sponsored tweets were the reason behind their fifth highest sales day ever. As rosy as these numbers are, there is always the other side of the spectrum and both PepsiCo and Best Buy have yet to re-up on Twitter ads after their initial go.

It remains to be seen if Twitter will extend its service to small businesses so that perhaps they to can begin to experiment with promoted tweets.
