RIM Free PlayBook tablet offer 2012

Research In Motion this week revealed a limited-time offer that aims to bolster sales of its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to enterprise customers. Between now and December 31st, BlackBerry business customers who purchase two PlayBook tablets from an authorized reseller will get a third PlayBook for free. They will also receive one free premium accessory for every two PlayBook tablets purchased, and they may choose from a black leather sleeve, a charging pod or a 6-foot HDMI cable. While some find that RIM’s PlayBook gets the job done as a recreational tablet, business customers may not share that opinion. BGR exclusively reported on Tuesday that RIM would be delaying the OS 2.0 update that will bring email and other PIM services to the device until next year. RIM confirmed our report later that evening, and also confirmed that standalone BBM capabilities would not be included in the February software release.

Nokia’s new Windows Phone handsets are priced to sell, and some analysts are impressed with what they’ve seen so far. A team from Barclays Capital on Thursday said Nokia’s first round of Windows Phones aren’t quite as differentiated as they would have liked, but they are priced competitively. “We believe [Nokia's] devices will be competitive in the marketplace from both hardware and pricing standpoints,” the Barclays team wrote in a note to investors. “Nokia in fact highlighted that pricing tariffs for the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 will be one notch cheaper than the iPhone 4S across all launch markets.”

4G ‘ideal phone Price Review 2012

It worked. 4G has been marketed so well by wireless carriers and vendors that people want it even if they don’t quite know why. A recent survey conducted by market research and intelligence firm In-Stat found that 75% of respondents listed 4G as one of the features their ideal phone would include. When asked which carrier offered the fastest 4G speeds, most respondents were left stymied. “Although 4G is an important feature for handset buyers, there is a lot of confusion surrounding 4G,” In-Stat analyst Greg Potter said in a statement.

Apple and Samsung are among the companies expected to take part in an upcoming sealed-bid auction of RPO’s manufacturing assets and patent portfolio, which covers technology surrounding the company’s Digital Waveguide Touch (DWT) solution. California-based RPO Inc. filed for bankruptcy in April of this year, and an auction to liquidate its protected manufacturing processes and IP portfolio will take place on November 3rd. The company’s DWT technology, which is touted as a superior touch solution that eliminates the need for a touch-sensitive layer, is seen as appealing to Apple, Samsung and other vendors seeking new methods to improve their smartphone and tablet displays.

Barnes & Noble Nook Color 2 Android tablet 2012

Barnes & Noble may release the successor to its Nook Color Android tablet on November 7th, according to The Digital Reader. Reportedly, the bookseller is preparing an entire new “Nook” department of its brick and mortar stores, which will include LED TVs and point-of-sale systems for shoppers interested in buying the eReader on the spot. It is unclear what sort of specs the Nook Color 2 will feature, although we suspect the device will run Android and its screen will be similar to the 7-inch screen on the original Nook Color. Additionally, we wouldn’t be surprised if Barnes & Noble lowered the price of the $249 Nook Color 2 down to $199 so that it will compete better with Amazon’s $199 Kindle Fire.

Looks like the tablet that wouldn’t die is finally dead — well, kind of sort, for now. HP sent out a note to let the world know that it’s “officially out of stock” of the zombie TouchPad. It’s not all bad news, however — apparently you can still pick one up at Best Buy, so long as you buy an HP computer at the same time. Mourn another quasi-death for the webOS slate with Boyz II Men after the break.
