New iPhone 5 iOS 6 App 2012-13

Call it a hunch, but we suspect that at least a few of you picked up an iPhone 5 today, or at least made the leap to iOS 6. If you’re in either position, you may be wondering just what apps to feed Apple’s flagship (or that fresh new firmware) once it’s ready to go. We’ve got a quick-hit list of titles that have been updated to take advantage of the tall display and new OS that go beyond Apple’s own work. The biggest upgrades of the lot come from keynote darling CNN as well as Flipboard: both have done more than add extra columns on the iPhone 5, offering an interface you won’t see on any mere 3.5-inch iPhone. Some bread-and-butter apps have made the launch week cut as well, such as Facebook and Twitter.

Apple said that the new headphones were designed for the “geometry of your ear” but added that they “don’t create a seal the way other in-ear headphones do.” The headphones feature three different ports — one on the inside leading directly to the ear, one on the outside and one on the stem — that Apple says have been designed to maximize sound quality. The EarPods will be included with the new iPod touch, the new iPod nano and with the new iPhone 5 and users can buy them standalone immediately.

Apple’s (AAPL) in-ear headphones have seen few changes since being introduced alongside the company’s original iPod in 2001. According to images published by Vietnamese site Tinhte.vn, however, Apple may introduce redesigned headphones with its next-generation iPhone. The site claims that the earphones were manufactured in Foxconn’s Vietnamese factory — the cable even includes the company’s iconic signature, “Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in Vietnam” — and are convinced of their authenticity because of the superior build quality. The new earphones are said to be smaller and, when they are worn, do not hurt the ear. It should be noted that the headphones do not feature an in-line remote, however, so it is unlikely that they would ship with Apple’s new iPhone in this state. Apple is widely expected to announce its next-generation iPhone at a press event on September 12th.

Engadget isn’t sure if Samsung plans to release this high-resolution Windows 8 laptop anytime in the near future, however, as it reports that “there was no news on what the manufacturer will call the new display tech, further specifications, or even whether this was just a proof of concept.”

Research In Motion will benefit in the near term from the ongoing launch of its new BlackBerry 7 smartphones, which are being described as the vendor’s strongest devices in some time. Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu upgraded his rating on RIM stock to Buy from Neutral, increasing his price target to $35 from $28. Wu sees near-term opportunity in RIM, and he thinks new BlackBerry handsets like the Bold 9900 will be well received. ”The key differences this time include a refined user interface and improved hardware including faster processors, better graphics and displays as well as better build quality with its greater use of premium materials,” Wu wrote on Friday. “The company recently launched the new Bold 9900 and Torch 9810 and we see the upcoming launch of the full touchscreen Torch and new lower-end Curve in upcoming 1-2 quarters as future catalysts. RIMM has undoubtedly lost some customers but for loyalists still using 2-3 year old models, these refined updates are a worthy upgrade.” Read on for more.
